Rooted makes October news!
As well as countless likes, shares and a whole heap of comments across social media, our inaugural events programme Rooted made both national and local news!
In September, Rooted caught the discerning eye of The Voice newspaper, which ran a feature on the programme’s packed schedule here.
The Voice then took a detailed look at our headline launch event, Sound System: Music & Poetry of the Black Atlantic, featuring Linton Kwesi Johnson, Conceição Evaristo, Roger Robinson and chaired by Malika Booker, here.
Welcome to Yorkshire published an informative explanation ahead of our Sound System event, opening with the words: “Ever felt a bassline so deep it rattles your bones? Or heard a poem that speaks right to your soul? Imagine combining the two. That’s exactly what’s happening in Leeds next week. A massive event is set to explore how giant speakers and powerful words, born from the streets of Jamaica, ended up changing the world.”
Susan Pitter, Out of Many People co-founder was interviewed about our busy Rooted programme on Rima Ahmed’s on BBC Radio Leeds show, Tuesday 7 October. Listen here from 1:05:09.
An exciting new creative exchange programme between the National Poetry Centre and Brazil and our Sound System: Music & Poetry of the Black Atlantic launch were reported on by Leeds Living, read here. Sound System was staged in partnership with National Poetry Centre and FLUP, with the support of the British Council and our venue partner Royal Armouries.
Leeds Inspired continues to showcase our Rooted events, as well as highlighting photos of our events on Instagram.
