ABOUT LIKKLE LIT FEST

What is Likkle Lit Fest? Who is it for?

Likkle Lit Fest is a children’s festival of Black literature  – Black characters and stories, told by Black writers, brought to life by Black illustrators and artists – for all to enjoy.

 

When and where is it happening?

Where: Leeds Central Library, Calverley St, Leeds LS1 3AB

When: Saturday 14th February 2026 10:30am – 4:00pm. Doors open at 10:00am

 

How do I get to Likkle Lit Fest?

Central Library is centrally located – a 10 minute walk from both Leeds Train and Bus Stations. For buses visit www.wymetro.com

Enter via Calverley St and Victoria Gardens for wheelchair/pushchair access

 

WHO CAN ATTEND LIKKLE LIT FEST? IS IT FAMILY-FRIENDLY?

Likkle Lit Fest is for all tots from age 3 to teens 16+ and families, with a wide range of ticketed and no-need-to-book creative, educational, and fun activities throughout the day.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All under 13s must be accompanied by an adult in sessions.
  • Adults are welcome to attend without pre-booking to browse our free drop-in programme – the vibrant Likkle Lit Fest Marketplace, the Lit Talk Panel conversation, Rubbish Words poetry collage-making with the National Poetry Centre are drop-in and free.

TICKETING & ADMISSION

Do I need a ticket to attend?

No – you do not need a ticket to attend the festival.

However, there are writer and other sessions for which you need to book a ticket.

We also have a programme of  free, no need to book, drop-in activities available throughout the day including the Likkle Lit Fest Marketplace with lots of vendors, book stalls, music and more.

If tickets are sold out online for a session you would like to attend, we may be able to allow access on the day depending on availability and participant numbers.

Can I attend without booking in advance?

Yes. Everyone is welcome to turn up on the day without pre-booking for the host of drop-in no need to book activities. More on our free and no-need-to-book activities here.

If you want to attend a ticketed session on the day and haven’t booked, entry is subject to availability.

 

What if I can’t attend once I’ve booked my ticket?

Tickets are in demand and very limited. If you cannot attend on the day please let us know as soon as possible so that we can give other children a chance to attend.

 

What time should I arrive for my pre-booked session?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time of your session.

Late arrivals may not be admitted, as we aim to avoid disrupting authors and artists during their sessions. Admission for latecomers is at the organisers’ discretion.

 

ACCESSIBILITY

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Leeds Central Library is wheelchair and pushchair accessible.

Accessible entry is available via the Victoria Gardens basement entrance or through the adjacent Leeds Art Gallery.

Lifts are available to all floors.

 

Is British Sign Language (BSL) interpretation available?

If you require a BSL interpreter, please contact us in advance by emailing:

Are there accessible toilets at the venue?

Yes. Accessible toilets are located on the lower ground floor/basement of the Library.

 

Is there disabled parking?

There is limited blue badge permit parking on Alexandra Street behind the Library.

 

OTHER ON THE DAY INFORMATION

How do I find my way around Likkle Lit Fest?

Our Likkle Lit Fest team and Library staff will be on hand to direct you.

A printed and a downloadable guide to the day with session locations will be available on the day.

Please note Room 800 is a new library space accessed through the Art Library on the first floor. Formerly Room 700.

 

What should I do if my child gets lost?

If your child becomes separated from you, please speak to a member of our team (wearing yellow/gold Likkle Lit Fest t-shirts with ‘CREW’ on the back) or Library staff (with LCC lanyards) immediately.

All staff and volunteers are trained to support lost children and will help reunite families as quickly and safely as possible.

 

Is there a Quiet Zone?

Yes. The Chill Out Zone is available outside the Music Library lobby area.

This space can be used if children or families feel overwhelmed and need some time away from busy areas. Subject to space.

Please note that as this is a public building, we are unable to control overall noise levels throughout the library.

 

Will there be refreshments?

The Tiled Hall Café on the ground floor is open from 10:00am – 4:30pm.

There are also lots of options nearby in Leeds Centre.

Tip: Stay hydrated! We recommend you bring water and snacks to have throughout the day.

 

What time is the Likkle Lit Fest Marketplace open?

The Marketplace is open all day from 10:00am – 4:30pm

You are welcome to visit at any time to browse and buy books, artwork, and products from our stallholders. Tip: Come early to purchase author books for signing after sessions.

 

What payment methods are accepted in the Marketplace?

Most stallholders accept both card and cash payments. We recommend bringing both where possible.

 

Will there be book signings?

Yes. Book signings will take place for all participating authors and will happen immediately after each author session. Most will take place in the Marketplace in Central Court.

Our official bookseller is AFRORI BOOKS , the UK’s biggest retailer of Black authors who will be selling books by Likkle Lit Fest’s featured authors and illustrators.

 

What do I if I have a query at Likkle Lit Fest?

Please direct your queries to our event team and volunteers. They will be wearing yellow/gold t-shirts with ‘Likkle Lit Fest’ on the front and ‘Crew’ on the back.

The Central Library team (wearing Leeds City Council lanyards) will also be on hand to answer queries or signpost to our team.
